Install the Chrome extension.

Use the full local package for desktop Chrome. The browser workspace works without this install.

WatScout 0.5.0

This ZIP contains the complete extension. It is a local install package, with no Chrome Web Store listing.

Read the package hash and file inventory

Check the package SHA-256 hash

Compare this SHA-256 value with the downloaded ZIP. A matching value confirms the downloaded bytes.

Load the local package

  1. Download the ZIP. Extract it into a folder that you will keep.
  2. In desktop Chrome, enter chrome://extensions in the address bar.
  3. Turn on Developer mode.
  4. Select Load unpacked. Select the extracted folder that contains manifest.json.
  5. Open the extensions menu. Pin WatScout if you want its icon on the toolbar.
  6. Open one supported WaterlooWorks job and its Overview tab. Select the WatScout toolbar icon to open the panel.
  7. In the panel, select Read open job. Read the draft before you save it.

Keep the extracted folder in place. Chrome reads the extension from that folder.

Use a supported job board

The extension reads a visible job overview after you select Read open job on these boards:

Work Study gives board guidance and manual entry. It does not supply a capture format.

If a page cannot supply a draft, add permitted job text manually in your shortlist.

Keep your saved data

The extension stores skills and jobs in Chrome extension storage. Its panel and full workspace share that data.

The website uses separate browser storage. It does not share the extension shortlist.

Use a JSON backup to move saved data between them. Read the backup and restore steps.

Before you update, remove, or reload an extension version, download a backup.

Version 0.3.0 cannot read the current storage snapshot. Do not roll back a browser profile with saved jobs to that version.

Know the access

The extension uses local storage. A toolbar action gives it temporary access to the active page and its visible job overview.

The package retains an optional private model pilot for a separately configured local service. Installation does not connect that service.

The public website has no model endpoint. No custom-trained model is included in this package.

Read the data and privacy details before you save job text.
