Know where your data stays.

WatScout stores your skills and saved job text on this device. The website and extension use separate storage.

Applies to version 0.5.0. Last updated October 4, 2026.

Saved skills and jobs

The browser workspace saves data in this browser's local storage for this website.

The Chrome extension saves data in Chrome extension storage. Its panel and full workspace share that data.

WatScout does not automatically copy data between these stores, devices, browser profiles, or different website addresses.

Other people who use the same browser profile can read your saved data. Use a browser profile that you control.

Keep names, student numbers, passwords, and other private details out of skill fields and job text.

Save only source text that you have permission to process.

Backup files

A backup is a plain-text JSON file. It contains your saved skills and saved jobs, including their source text.

The backup contains no private model token, session file, or temporary capture draft. It is not encrypted.

Downloading a backup makes a local file. Import reads the file on this device. These actions do not upload the file.

Keep the file in a private folder. If you move or share it, the receiving person or service can read its contents.

Read the backup and restore steps before you change browsers or remove the extension.

Page access in the Chrome extension

The toolbar icon opens the panel. After you select Read open job, the extension reads one visible job overview from a supported WaterlooWorks board.

It excludes navigation, hidden fields, form inputs, and contact sections. Private details inside an allowed job field can still enter a draft.

Read the draft before you save it. Discard it if the text contains details that you should not keep.

An unsaved panel draft stays in that page's memory. Save it or discard it before you read another job. Save it to keep the source text in your shortlist.

WatScout does not submit applications or change WaterlooWorks pages.

Website requests and model use

Your browser requests these website pages, local fonts, images, and downloads from the website host.

The host receives connection details needed to serve those files, such as your IP address and requested path.

The public workspace does not send saved skills or job text to a model service. It has no hosted AI endpoint.

The website contains no analytics script, advertising code, account form, or third-party font request.

Checked guidance links to official sources. If you open an external link, that website's privacy rules apply.

The Chrome package retains a separate private model pilot. It requires an intentional connection to a separately configured local service.

No custom-trained model is included. Public use does not start model training.

Remove data or keep a copy

Download a backup first if you need the saved data later.

You can remove jobs in the shortlist. Saving an empty skill field removes the saved skills.

Clearing this website's browser data removes its saved skills and jobs. Removing the extension deletes its extension data.

Private browsing data can disappear when you close the private window.

The website host and extension package do not provide a recovery copy of your browser data. Keep your own backup.
